SYNOPSIS: Wild, experimental, arthouse film from the Czech Republic. After the war, two close friends live in a decayed church in a bombed out European village. Parts of the walls and roof are missing. Debris and found objects are littered throughout the dwelling. The two men find a woman covered in filth and bring her home to wash up and get some food. The trio soon form a strong bond and spend their days playing childish games and pranks on each other. They eat, drink, philosophize, play music and make love. Their "landlord", a senior derelict who drinks wine and cackles incessantly, sometimes joins in on the fun. Eventually the games must end as darker themes arise. This film is packed with memorable images and scenes and the handheld camera is rarely still. Even if you're not a fan of arthouse weirdness it moves along at such a breakneck pace, you'll never have a chance to get bored. There's full frontal nudity, musical segments, black & white footage and a group of disabled children who occasionally play dress-up with the trio. The two lead actors are likable and mischievous. The lone female (Vásáryová) is cute and desirable in a French New Wave kinda way. It reminds me a lot of the film Daises (1966) as well as works by Agnes Varda, Fellini and Alejandro Jodorowsky. In Czech language with English subtitles. WIDESCREEN.
