The Girl with a Pistol (La Ragazza con la Pistola) (1968)

$20.00

DIRECTOR: Mario Monicelli (An Average Little Man)

STARS: Monica Vitti (Red Desert), Carlo Giuffrè (Son Conento), Stanley Baker (Hell Drivers), Corin Redgrave (Excalibur), Anthony Booth (Corruption)

SYNOPSIS: It’s hard to tell from the poster art but ultimately this is a dark comedy. Sexy Monica Vitti lives in a remote Italian town that seems stuck in the dark ages. It’s 1968 but you wouldn’t know it. She gets kidnapped and “raped” by a local lothario. I say “raped” because as soon as it begins — she starts screaming for more. The would-be rapist “Vincenzo” (a very funy Giuffrè) may have gotten more than he bargained for as Vitti demands that they get married. Otherwise, she’ll have to live in shame and dishonor according to the family’s beliefs. Vincenzo skips out of town and goes to the England to start his life over. Vitti, and her pistol, are close behind trying to track him down. Along the way she meets a friendly Brit mod guy as well as straitlaced Stanley Baker. This is a great looking film and Vitti is as pretty as she’s ever been. Fans of films like Divorce Italian Style and Seduced and Abandoned will enjoy this. In Italian language with English subtitles.
