CELLAT
( aka The Executioner )
(1975)
DIRECTOR: Memduh Ün (Altin Cocuk)
STARS: Serdar Gökhan, Emel Özden, Reha Yurdakul (Superman Dönüyor)
SYNOPSIS: Turkish rip-off of Death Wish. A straitlaced architect is living a happy life when his wife and kid sister are brutally raped in a home invasion by three thugs. His wife dies and his sister ends up severely traumatized. When he sees little action by the police he decides to take matters into his own hands. Even before this event he was angered by the rise of various crimes in his city. After acquiring a handgun he walks the late night streets of Turkey setting himself up as a target for thieves, drug addicts and killers. He shoots them all dead with little remorse until he eventually catches up to the creeps who hurt his family. He makes sure they all die painfully. This Death Wish rip-off sticks fairly close to the original with mean streets of New York replaced by the dusty dirt roads and creepy back alleys of Turkey. The villains are pretty cartoonish and comic book-like which is on par for Turkish cinema. The violence is graphically brutal and there's some surprising nudity as well. This is a satisfying revenge film entry. In original Turkish language with English subtitles.
