THE FIRM MAN

(1975)

DIRECTOR:
John Duigan (Year My Voice Broke, Flirting)

STARS: Peter Cummins (The Quest, Rikky & Pete), Eileen Chapman (Alvin Purple), Peter Carmody (Bliss), Bruce Spence (The Road Warrior)

SYNOPSIS: A worker gets promoted in his company firm but can't figure out what his new position requires in this absurd Australian comedy. This obscure film is almost impossible to find and even more impossible to describe. A balding middle-aged man "Gerald" (Cummins) is told he's moving up the corporate ladder and his co-workers all congratulate him. His new boss is quirky and won't tell him any details about the position, only explaining that he'll "figure it out". Meanwhile Gerald catches his wife cheating on him and doesn't seem too upset. A pair of spy-like men (including Road Warrior's Bruce Spence) follow him around and give him secret envelopes to deliver back to his boss. Plus, Gerald's oversexed secretary screws him in his office. After a few cult-style meetings and a party with strip poker, Gerald seems to make some sense out of all the nonsense. A real weird one.
