Go For Broke (1985)
(aka V: Madonna daisenso)
DIRECTOR: Genji Nakamura
STARS: Yukari Usami, Kozue Saito, Rikako Murakami
SYNOPSIS: A preppy private school in Japan is terrorized by a mean biker gang, named “Yagyu”, who extort money from them every month. The students are fed up and one kid suggests a Seven Samurai / Magnificent Seven style solution (i.e. hire some professionals to do the fighting for them). They are able to recruit an all-woman team including a movie stunt performer, professional wrestler, weapons / bomb expert, motocross rider, etc. They form a unit nicknamed “Madonna”. When the Yagyu show up to collect their money they are surprised by the ladies and get their asses kicked. The victory is short lived however as the real leader of the biker gang, a tough woman named “Leopard”, decides to teach them a lesson. A few of the Madonnas are individually beaten, raped and tortured and one is taken for hostage. This leads to a final showdown at the school with students and Madonnas using motorcycles, bats and fists as well as handy items like a baseball pitching machine, fire extinguisher, and paintball guns to fight. It’s a very explosive finale with lots of action. Overall the film is more Home Alone than The Warriors with the action and violence being on the cartoonish side. A few of the characters say the film’s title but it comes out as “Go for break!”. There’s even a title song, in English, with this mistake. In Japanese language with English subtitles. WIDESCREEN
