Seytan (1974)

$20.00

DIRECTOR: Metin Erksan

STARS: Canan Perver, Cihan Unal, Meral Taygun

SYNOPSIS: A Turkish remake / rip-off of The Exorcist where the filmmakers pretty much steal everything lock, stock and tubular bells. Some reviewers claim it’s a shot-for-shot remake. I won’t go into the plot as most fans should be familiar with it. One of the big changes in this are the two priest characters. The older man is more like a professor / archeologist and the younger man is an author / psychiatrist. They refer to the Qur’an during the exorcism and when the holy water is thrown on the girl it’s called “zu zu water”. There’s no profanity in the film and no crucifix masturbation - but the head spinning and green vomit are intact. Also the names have all been changed to Turkish monikers like “Gul”, “Tugrul”, “Ayten”, etc. Even the girls’ imaginary friend “Captain Howdy” is now called “Captain Lersen”. The interior of the house looks quite different from it’s Boston counterpart as it’s decorated in garish 70’s style and bright colors. To be fair it’s the best Turkish rip-off film I’ve seen. They tend to be pretty cheap and poorly made with very low budgets. We sell quite a few on here including Cellat (Death Wish films), 3 Dev Adam (superhero films), Altin Cocuk (James Bond), etc. Most famously is the Star Wars rip-off: The Man Who Saves the World. All of these films are fun in their low budgets and style. In Seytan the production values are fine for a low budget horror film. Cons are the acting being a little over the top and the cheesy special effects. Overall if you’re looking for a so-bad-it’s-good film this is not it. But if you want to see a bizarro world version of The Exorcist this is worth a look. In Turkish language with English subtitles. WIDESCREEN
