Mr. Peek-A-Boo (Garou Garou, le passe-muraille) (1951)

$20.00

DIRECTOR: Jean Boyer (Chocolat)

STARS: Bourvil (Le Cercle Rouge, Jailbird’s Vacation), Jean Greenwood (Kind Hearts and Coronets), Gérard Oury (Triple Deception)

SYNOPSIS: French comedian Bourvil stars as a quiet, absent minded office worker. For reasons he can’t understand he has the ability to walk through walls. At first he uses his powers just to play pranks and mess with his boss. But after he discovers a sexy cat burglar (Greenwood) stealing some jewelry, he decides to become a thief - not for monetary gain, but to impress his new crush. He plans to return the loot. At one point he ends up in prison and simply walks his way out through the concrete walls. There’s plenty of sight gags and a romantic subplot. It feels like a made-for-TV film from the 50’s. Characters you might expect to see in shows like The Honeymooners or a lighter episode of the Twilight Zone. This is pretty mild stuff since it’s rated G and made in 1951. Don’t expect any Zapped style hi-jinks or nudity as this is more of a Sci-Fi / Fantasy curiosity piece. You might think a film with Bourvil as its star would be a French language film. However it’s all Brits in the cast with Bourvil delivering his lines in English (with a heavy accent). In spoken English.
