King Dick (1975) / Dirty Duck (1974)
Double Feature on 1 DVD
DIRECTOR: King Dick: Giorgio Terzi, Francesco Maurizio Guido (Plot of Fear) / Dirty Duck: Charles Swenson (Puff the Magic Dragon)
STARS (voices): King Dick: / Dirty Duck: Howard Kaylan (Get Crazy), Mark Volman (200 Motels), Robert Ridgely (Boogie Nights), Cynthia Adler (Knightriders)
SYNOPSIS: Two adult themed animated films on one disc.
King Dick (aka Il Nano e la Strega): The story is set in a fairy-tale type setting with kings, castles and an evil witch named “Nymphomania”. The witch learns that if she can have 69 orgasms she’ll break free of the curse that turned her from a sexy, busty blonde into a sloppy green hag. Our hero is “Little Dick” — who is anything but. He’s a small gnome-like fellow with an extra large package. Just the man to give the witch what she needs. But her hideous appearance is so off putting it won’t be easy. There’s also a king named “Limp Dick”, Robin Hood, and a talking frog in the mix. The animation here is pretty cheap and the style reminds me of Friz Freling’s work (Pink Panther, Tijuana Frogs, etc,). There’s tons of “nudity” and sex scenes along with some genuine laughs. This film is extremely rare and has never been released on dvd. Running time: 1hr 7mins
Dirty Duck: This title is more well known and did receive a dvd release (though it’s now out of print). I’m offering it here as a bonus feature since King Dick has a short running time. Nervous wreck “Willard” is a nerdy guy who works a dull office job while dreaming of having sex (for the first time) with a busty co-worker. He’s just a mess until one day a pushy foul mouthed duck comes into his life and becomes determined to help Willard come out of his shell. Their relationship is a lot like Peter Falk and Alan Arkin in The In-Laws (which came 5 years later!). Duck is consistently upbeat and confident no matter how crazy his schemes are or how desperate the situation is, while Willard is just a miserable mess. They go on a road trip adventure that includes a tattoo parlor, bizarre masturbation techniques, hippie lesbians, a horribly racist policeman and lots of weird sex. The best part is the actual animation which is a surreal drug induced blast. The style reminds me of Yellow Submarine, early 1970’s underground comix, Vegetable Soup and Terry Gilliam’s work on Monty Python’s Flying Circus (with cut out photos being animated). Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman, aka Flo & Eddie, provide the voices for Willard and Duck as well as some memorable songs throughout the soundtrack. Robert Ridgely voices multiple characters including the absolutely hilarious policeman with a John Wayne accent (mentioned above). Better than you think. Running time: 1hr 9mins
