Cocaine Cowboys (1979)

$20.00

DIRECTOR: Ulli Lommel (The Boogeyman, Strangers in Paradise)

STARS: Jack Palance (One Man Jury), Tom Sullivan, Andy Warhol, Suzanna Love (The Boogeyman), Richard Young (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade)

SYNOPSIS: Oddball arthouse drama with Jack Palance, Andy Warhol and few kilos of cocaine! A friendly group of late 70’s long-haired rockers decide to smuggle some dope into the country to help pay for their band’s new album. They hold up at a remote summer house (owned by Andy Warhol in real life) out in Montauk, Long Island. At a small airport the plane carrying the load of coke gets scared off by cops. The pilot decides to drop it in the ocean near the house instead. The band members ride their horses along the beach but can’t find it. Meanwhile we see them practicing new songs at the house (they kind of sound like “The Band”). Jack Palance hangs out as their shady manager— it was his idea to raise money by running drugs for the mob, no less. The wraparound story takes place at Warhol’s NYC apartment and features the band’s leader (the charismatic Tom Sullivan) telling Warhol, playing himself, the whole story of the drug deal gone bad. There’s a good amount of music, nudity and drug use. Cute Suzanna Love, star of the director’s The Boogeyman, plays a maid at the summer house. The quality of the print is much better than any of the vhs releases I’ve seen.
