SYNOPSIS: A Nazi scientist / war criminal in hiding makes up a batch of deadly nerve gas called “Tabun” which he plans on selling to a revolutionary leader willing to pay top dollar. While flying a private plane to personally deliver a sample, it crashes in the jungle and wipes out the inhabitants of a nearby village. However, before he left Hong Kong the scientist hid the bulk of Tabun in a sewer with a time bomb attached. It’s set to go off in a few days unless our hero Richard Basehart can find it first. Basehart is the head of an ecological division of the government and knows all about this stuff. To further complicate the situation, unscrupulous “businessman” Leslie Nielsen (chewing the scenery) wants to get to the supply of nerve gas first so he can sell it. Although this film was released briefly in theaters it has all the feel of a 1970’s made-for-TV movie. There are shoot-outs, a foot chase and of course a last minute race to disable the bomb. But overall it’s more talk than action. Although it does have it’s charms — Did you ever think you’d see a 59-year-old Richard Basehart chase a 47-year-old Leslie Nielsen through the slums of Hong Kong? Strangely enough Basehart acted in the excellent 1965 thriller The Satan Bug wherein he was the villain — a man who steals a deadly superbug and threatens to release it on the world! Go figure. Susan Strasberg plays the kooky daughter of the Nazi.
