STREET GANGS OF HONG KONG
dvd

(aka The Delinquent)

(1973)

DIRECTOR: Cheh Chang

STARS: Chung Wang (Hammer of God, Savage 5, Killer Clans), Lily Li, Betty Pei Ti, Ti Lu, Ling Tung

SYNOPSIS: John is a young man who works as a dishwasher in a poor section of Hong Kong. Like James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause he's frustrated and mad at… something. His hardworking father tries to set him straight but they argue and fight. His saving grace is that he's an excellent martial artist and doesn't let anyone push him around. So, when delinquent schoolmates give him a hard time he kicks their ass. Even if it's 20 people against him… he still wins. A small time crime figure takes notice and tries to get John under his wing. In an act of rebellion he agrees to help the crime lord's gang rob a warehouse where his own father works as a security guard. He has a change of heart too late and this leads to an action packed finale. Every fight scene in this film is excellent. They take place in a basketball court, warehouse, a lumber mill, desolate fields, high rise apartment and a garbage strewn canal. Star Chung Wang has a clean, fast fighting style and a charismatic personality. The final few fight scenes are incredibly violent and bloody! Released the same year as Enter the Dragon, this film more resembles contemporary martial arts fare like The Raid. Highly recommended. In Chinese with English subtitles. WIDESCREEN
