SYNOPSIS: Two, low budget, good guys vs gangs action flicks.
Chains: Two 80's-style suburban couples drive outside their comfort zone in Chicago. They end up lost in gang territory and pick up a man in distress. He offers to help them get back home. Unbeknownst to them their passenger is a member of the gang know as "The Rippers". A rival group, "The Chains", want him dead because he just assassinated their leader! The gang pursue the car and corner the group in an old warehouse (of course). Thus begins a night of survival with assaults, homemade bombs, bloody stabbings and more. The yuppies go from innocent victims to weary killers. Overall pretty action packed despite the low budget. The gang members outfits look like they're from 80's music videos. Reminiscent of Enemy Territory, Judgement Night and a bit of Future Kill (minus the slight sci-fi bend of that film). Ultimately the poster (above) leaves little doubt that it's inspiration was The Warriors.
Dead End City: In a grimy sci-fi future likable actor Gregory Cummins runs a factory he inherited from his father. He insist on staying in this industrial area even though most of the residents have been relocated. A gang called "The Ratts" roams around intimidating, torturing and killing any stray pedestrians. Their leader is big Robert Z'Dar who wears an ascot and barks orders at his followers. The Ratts get annoyed when Cummins won't leave and engage in warfare. At this point the film basically becomes Assault on Precinct 13 with Warriors-style gangs. Joining Cummins in his fight are a gun-packing buddy, a girl and her blind brother, a local newswoman and a few others. There are car chases, shoot-outs, fights, explosions and a pulsing synthesizer score. Fun low budget romp for fans of films like Trespass, Self Defense and maybe a little Escape From New York..
