CONFESSIONS OF TOM HARRIS dvd
(aka Tale of the Cock, aka Childish Things)
(1969)
DIRECTOR: John Derek (Fantasies, Bolero) / David Nelson
STARS: Don Murray (Boy Who Drank Too Much), Linda Evans (Beach Blanket Bingo), David Brian, Jack Griffin, Logan Ramsey (Mean Dog Blues, Beast Within), Angelique Pettyjohn (The Curious Female, Good-Bye Cruel World)
SYNOPSIS: Don Murray stars as "Tom" a dishonorably discharged military man who commits crimes left and right. He has a nasty attitude and gets along with no one. He steals a car and rapes poor Linda Evans (24 years old and gorgeous) before the opening credits finish. Tom bums around L.A. and ends up boxing in some sleazy bouts run by the mob. To make extra dough he gets hired by Logan Ramsey to collect unpaid debts from degenerate gamblers by any means necessary. He eventually runs into Evans again and stalks / woos her. Amazingly she begins to fall for her rapist. Turns out her father runs a countryside recovery home. The center uses religion to save poor wretches like Tom with his raging alcoholism. Slowly but surely Tom begins to see another way to navigate the world and his life. The story is framed by an interview with Tom, in present day, as he explains his journey to two journalists. This film is rated PG so don't expect too much in the sleaze department. More of a curiosity piece than anything else.
