SYNOPSIS: Madeleine Stowe plays the author of a children's book that is deemed propaganda by an unnamed government. Alan Rickman is the clever interrogator / torturer. He uses increasingly severe psychological and physical torture methods to break her will. Both Stowe and Rickman give first rate intense performances. Similar to a stage play, the film basically takes place on a single set and features only two performers. Much of the lighting, camerawork and flashbacks are stylized but still drive home the horrors of unchecked governmental power.
