THE CHALLENGE dvd
(1982)
DIRECTOR: John Frankenheimer (Seconds, French Connection II)
STARS: Scott Glenn, Toshiro Mifune
SYNOPSIS: An American boxer (Scott Glenn) finds himself caught between a Japanese family feud older than the Hatfields and McCoys in this overlooked entry from the great John Frankenheimer. Glenn gets some help and wild training tips (see clip below) from samurai master Toshiro Mifune who wants to get back a sacred family sword. The slam-bag fight finale takes place in a modern high rise as old-school Japanese fighting meets cubicle hell. The action scenes were choreographed by a then unknown Steven Seagal. Co-written by John Sayles.
