SYNOPSIS: Mad Max meets Running Man in two action-packed post apocalyptic entries from Italy.

Endgame: Of all the post-apocalypse films being offered up on our site this is probably my favorite. No doubt thanks to Joe D'Amato director of countless genre films including Emmanuelle and the Last Cannibals, Beyond the Darkness and Porno Holocaust. This one starts off like The Running Man with a Mad Max looking, leather clad, Al Cliver as "Ron Shannon". He's a man of few words. In fact, by the end of the film, I'd be surprised if all of his dialog took up more than two pages of script! Shannon is the 'Endgame' all-time champion. 'Endgame' is a televised show in which the underclass of the post-apocalyptic world can compete to the death for money and fame. One man is the prey while the other 3-5 contestants are the hunters. Whomever is alive at the end is the winner. Shannon is the prey this time around and the hunters consist of Road Warrior inspired baddies with various wild outfits, face paint and weapons. This includes big George Eastman as Shannon's main rival "Karnak". The game takes place in dreary bomb ravaged buildings and underground tunnels. These real locations are pretty amazing and D'Amato bathes them all in dark shadows and neon blues. Head villain Gordon Mitchell watches the show in a safe bunker with his military cohorts. Shannon works his way through the hunters and dispatches them all except for Karnak for whom he shows mercy. Despite the film's title and poster art the 'Endgame' portion of the story is finished at the 30 minute mark. Then the Road Warrior portion of the film takes over. During the game Shannon was introduced to Laura Gemser, a psychic mutant, who needs help in leading a group of people out of the forbidden zone. She will pay him in gold for his work. Shannon recruits a ragtag team including a ninja, a big barbarian and an eyepatch wearing Gabriele Tinti. They load the people in a van with a few futuristic vehicles and a motorcycle as back-up. During their journey they battle various mutants, gangs and bad guys including a deadly group of blind psychic monks who use a captive man as their "eyes". Along the way Karnak joins them to help out and they eventually reach their destination only to run into evil Gordon Mitchell. It even ends with a rip-off of the final scene from Rocky II as Cliver and Eastman decide to settle their score!

The Final Executioner: This one is more Most Dangerous Game crossed with Mad Max. After the apocalypse a handful of upperclass people, who avoided any contamination, have a game called 'The Hunt'. They basically cut loose a group of lowerclass unfortunates and then hunt them down for sport. We're introduced to psychopathic dandy "Erasemus" (a memorable Harrison Muller). He wears black leather with metal studs, a white scarf and favors a custom made white rifle! He has a friendly rivalry with another group of hunters including the sexy and dangerous "Edra". She and Erasemus even have a bet on who can kill more people! The first half of the film spends a fair amount of time with these villains and we see how they operate. Eventually they come upon our hero "Alan" and his female traveling partner. They chase them down and she gets brutally gang raped and murdered. Alan gets badly beaten and dragged behind a vehicle. Then they set him free so he can be hunted again. Half-dead he falls into a river and floats away. He wakes up in a safe haven with crusty survivor Woody Strode nursing him back to health. This is the best section of the film as the tough-as-nails Strode puts our hero through a grueling training process. It's unfortunate that Strode's role in the film wasn't bigger as his presence here is a real highlight. Now that he's better prepared Alan makes his way to the hunter's estate and begins his revenge which includes a good dose of psychological warfare. He knocks the hunters off one by one until the inevitable showdown with Erasemus. This one is action packed and the energetic electronic score is great!
