SYNOPSIS: Here's a great little crime thriller from the 50's with a young Robert Loggia in the lead. He plays a tough cop trying to figure out who's killing members of McBain's infamous 87th Precinct .  Adding to the problem is a citywide heatwave that puts nerves on end and girls in skimpy outfits. Some gritty location shooting, realistic police action and a fine supporting performance by Gerald O'Laughlin (as Loggia's partner) make this a winner. Plus you get to see Jerry Orbach in his screen debut as "Mumzer" head of a feared street gang from Brooklyn. He basically has one scene talking with the police chief - but he Steals It! Nice quality on this one too. The first film adaptation of a novel by crime favorite Ed McBain.
