SYNOPSIS: I would put this
classic crime/noir film up as one of my all-time favorites. Nelson
stars as the ex-con trying to go straight. But, of course, he's
pulled back in by some crooks. A time worn plot to be sure. But the
acting and direction more than make up for it. Sterling Hayden is
pure 50's tough-guy as the cop busting Nelson's balls to stay on the
straight and narrow. Plus you get memorable supporting help from a
hulking Charles Bronson, Ted De Corsia and an extra teeth-clenching
appearance from the great Timothy Carey! The fine location shooting
has a gritty documentary feel to it. Those Los Angeles streets of
the 1950's will haunt you. Highly Recommended!
